365 days full of energy: Our review of 2021

ANALOGUE STAYS DIGITAL

Due to coronavirus, our work has mainly been done digitally: No trade fairs, but countless webinars and even internally, some colleagues have only been seen through the screen all year. Meetings became more efficient thanks to brainstorming on online whiteboards and we also discovered online gaming after work. Nevertheless, we were delighted when we were able to play table football and even organise a small outdoor summer party - we really needed that! 🌞

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AT ITS FINEST

We were able to record some successes in the software area: The long-awaited platform release to make measurement series more flexible was finally completed. As a result, our software can now map any number of divisions and sensor-based measurement series, which makes many new use cases in the commercial customer sector possible. This was accompanied with the development of the new features - the Sankey diagram and the new formula editor, e.g. for monitoring generation plants, have already been extensively tested by our customers and the results are clear: the new features are well received and the newly gained flexibility clearly sets GreenPocket apart from the competition! The development of the AI-driven automatic load profile analysis was also a milestone for our DEV team ‘Phoenix’. And there was also a significant leap forward for our energy cockpit, as it moved to our cloud platform 🚀

In addition, there have been huge developments in our tech strategy and our deployment infrastructure has also become much simpler and more automated thanks to our DevOps Tim. The server migration has now been completed for almost all existing customers, enabling us to increase development speed and security as well as improve maintainability and scalability! #kubernetesonly 💻

FACTS AND FIGURES OF 2021

We were also able to increase our numbers enormously: we gained seven new customers in 2021, including the Archdiocese of Cologne, a customer from the municipal sector, and "Das Futterhaus", a retail customer. And that's not the only way we've noticed that the rollout is finally having an impact: before the end of the year, we had already hit our annual target of 55,000 counting points in the software. This motivates us to continue to surpass ourselves! 💪

As an innovative, green startup, we are particularly pleased to have been selected by the South Summit jury from 3,800 applications worldwide as one of the top 100 startups with the most sustainable ideas and visions. This encourages us in our mission that we are on the right track with our intuitive energy management to create more transparency and climate protection. 🌱

LET’S DANCE THE SHANGO

The kick-off for our new research project SHANGO (Smart Heating System Optimisation) was a great success for the entire team: In this project, we are working together with Fraunhofer IIS and Bosch Thermotechnology to identify inefficient operation and installation errors in gas heating systems and heat pumps. An exciting project, especially for our project management and data science team! 🔥

LEARN TOGETHER, GROW TOGETHER

Even though some irreplaceable team members have left us, we are still very proud of our great team - both of the new talents we have welcomed to our GreenPocket family and of the familiar faces. We are also very happy that we were able to make it possible for some colleagues to retrain within GreenPocket or to move up to team lead positions so that we could optimally fill our vacant positions.

And process improvement and training didn't fall by the wayside in 2021 either: a monthly training day was introduced in the middle of the year - completely digitally, of course! This covered both topic- and department-specific training as well as general training such as time management - so there was always something for everyone! 📖

THE ROAD GOES ON AND ON

We are now looking forward to 2022: the implementation of the HKVO and FFVAV guidelines in our software, exciting new projects and growing metering point numbers, the focus on the commercial customer segment, also as part of the energy-saving meter project, new faces... We are looking forward to everything that may come! ♥
